Ship's Blog - Fishermen's Finest

Thanks again to our Dutch Harbor neighbor Joe on Haystack Hill for this video from yesterday.

Kudos to the USCG; we are thankful for their presence and support in the Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands, and Gulf of Alaska. These guys are good!

Each year in April, July, and October, we venture over to the Gulf of Alaska, where we’ve been fishing since 1986, to participate in the deepwater and shallow water complex fisheries.

Ports of call typically include Sandpoint (where both our vessel’s will be with Trip 11 this Friday), Kodiak, Seward, etc.

Above is a photo from the City of Sand Point website (along w/ my description of the various landmarks).

Below are a couple of links for more information on Sand Point:

Good people are the key to our success! Congratulations to U.S. Intrepid crewmember John Dojiok for 5 years of service to Fishermen’s Finest.

Check out the latest news from our main Alaska Port, Dutch Harbor/Unalaska.

This week’s cover story talks of ‘Oil in them thar … seas’

There’s also a great deal of local/state news and of course the Police Blotter…

Thanks again to our neighbor on Haystack Hill for this great video of life in Dutch Harbor.

Each year in March, we head West to target Cod in the Aleutian Islands.

Cod, always a mainstay of Fishermen’s Finest year, is down to one directed fishing trip this year. It is a struggle to hang on to our Directed Cod Fishery, moving forward.

See the link below to see how we are working to keep access Codfish and pay special attention to the dissenting opinion of the 9th Circuit Court of appeals judge.

A corny saying on the waterfront, “in Cod we trust.”
