NMFS director and the Alaska delegation on the NPFMC have declared their intention to eliminate the Amendment 80 (A.80) halibut allocations to appease the Canadian dominated IPHC and the 25 halibut fishermens in the Pribilofs - see the State of Alaska Economic Data for:
They have done this without complying with United States law which requires an Environmental Impact Study (EIS); nor have they applied any of the Magnuson Stevens Act (MSFCMA) National Standards.
US Law requires, at the very least that an EIS is done to review the impact of $1.2 billlion economic contraction that this will cause. It's an unfortunate case of the jury deciding the case before going to the trouble of sitting through the trial and looking at the evidence.
It's a sad day for the rule of law in the United States of America.
