Safety fair

Each year, the Seattle Fishermen's Memorial hosts a Fishermen's Safety Fair to teach fishermen practical skills to save their boats and their lives. Together with our trainers and sponsors, we hope to promote and educate fishermen on the importance of safety. On Wednesday, May 24th, we had a great turn-out in Fishermen’s Terminal.

Terry Robertson (L) from FishFinest with four participants from the Safety Fair.

The day long affair, free to all participants, included a certificate and prizes for those that participated. Safety Training is part of the Seattle Fishermen’s Memorial mission. To that end, we offer annual training in the form of a Safety Fair, as well as a reimbursement program for seafarers to offset the costs of safety training.

SEATTLE FISHERMEN’S MEMORIAL

The Seattle Fishermen's Memorial is a charitable organization devoted to promoting safety in the fishing fleets and easing the emotional struggles and financial burden of education for surviving family members of fishermen lost at sea.

The memorial has established two scholarship programs:

  • The Memorial Fund Scholarship provides scholarships to the surviving members of fishermen lost at sea.

  • The Gunnar Ildhuso Memorial Scholarship provides support to those in the fishing industry seeking to improve their maritime skills, qualifications, or safety credentials.

Each Fall, during the Pacific Marine Expo - aka Fish Expo, the Seattle Fishermen’s Memorial holds a benefit auction to raise funds to support the memorial and its charitable scholarship programs.
